What do French painter Henri Matisse and Adele's Vogue photo shoot have in common? Any guesses? Let's say they were both inspired by one thing : the Romanian blouse. In fact, they weren't the only ones: Yves Saint Laurent and Jean Paul Gaultier created their own versions of it and so did Tom Ford last year (the one worn by Adele in Vogue is his design). Of course, these are the most famous examples, as it is a long list of artists who used it in their work.
Because it is part of the traditional Romanian costume (now you mainly see it in a museum or maybe in the countryside) people don't wear it anymore on the streets. Or at least they rarely do. There are many types of costumes coming from different parts of the country and some of them have a very complex embroidery using gold and silver threads and beads. Lots and lots of beads.
If you want to see more outfits, take a look at a project I worked on last year.

Fusta si sandalele sunt.. no comment, love them ! Am observat si eu tendinta asta de "back to basics", piese din costumul popular.. e interesanta :)) te prinde bluzita oricum :)

The Romanian blouse is definitely HOT right now. I feel like there are a lot of Eastern influences this Summer. The arm party (stacking of multiple bracelets, bangles, cuffs, friendship bracelets etc.) reminds me of far Eastern women who still stack their arm "candy" to display status. In my motherland, Turkey, brides are given gold bracelets by guests to stack on their arms. I do love the culturally bohemia look of the Romanian blouse.

Foarte cool combinaţia. Mă bucur să văd că faci lobby pentru acest produs autentic românesc... cine ştie... poate devine un trend atât de bin vândut încât ne va scoate ţara din criză.
